EVENING & WORKSHOP SPEAKER:
Rev. Dr. Ken Fong, Senior Pastor, Evergreen Baptist Church (Los Angeles, CA)

Born and raised in Sacramento, Ken is a native Californian, a third generation American of Chinese ancestry. Ken had made a decision to follow Christ while still in junior high school. In 1977, he enrolled at the American Baptist Seminary of the West, commuting back to Sacramento on the weekends to continue ministering to the youth.
The following year he transferred to Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, CA, completing his M.Div. in December of 1980. His relocating not only introduced him to his future wife, but his future church and his special mission. He completed his internship at Evergreen Baptist Church of Los Angeles, then a long dormant English-speaking Japanese American ministry that was reviving under the leadership of their new pastor, Cory Ishida. Ken was called to be their first associate in January, 1981, an affirmation that the Lord was broadening the church’s audience to include Chinese Americans.
Under the guidance of these two pastors, Evergreen went from being a mono-Asian church of less than eighty worshippers to an English-only Japanese/Chinese American congregation of over 1,200. Ken enrolled in Fuller's doctor of ministry program in 1984, graduating with his D.Min. in December of 1990. In 2006, he became an adjunct at the Haggard School of Theology (Azusa Pacific University).
In March 1997 the church initiated a friendly ‘split’ with Ken as the new senior pastor of the one known as Evergreen-LA, with the vision to foster a fresh model of a church for the next century, one that will be both multi-Asian, multi-ethnic, and multigenerational, one that offers Christ’s real hope to real people.
He is frequently asked to speak and consult in a broad cross-section of settings. In December 2000 he served as the main Bible expositor for InterVarsity’s Urbana 2000 Student Missions Conference. He has spoken at places like Moody Bible Institute (Chicago), Westmont College, Azusa Pacific University, Promise Keepers, the National Youth Workers’ Convention and Pastors’ Conference to name a few.
His wife Sharon (better known as “Snoopy”) is a vice-president of the Private Bank of Union Bank of California in Beverly Hills. Their daughter Janessa was born on April 3, 1999 and they live together in Sierra Madre, CA. He enjoys playing golf in his spare time.
