2002 Theme Verses

“The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God.” Psalm 92:12-13

Our theme this year is continuous with what God has led us from our previous year’s conference – “Look Up & Look Out.” (Luke 21:28 and John 4:35). The basic message was realizing the urgency of Jesus’ return and seeing that there is much work to be done. Continuing along those lines our theme this year is “Solid Root - Glorious Fruit" (Psalm 92:12-13) - being able to stand firm in our faith so that nothing will “uproot” it and at the same time, allowing our faith to grow deep so that it would bear fruit and allow us to be able to stand in the gap for others.

Solid Root - (Morning Message Focus - Dick Hawley)

Who we are and what we do finds its roots deep within our hearts. When Christ told His disciples, "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32,) He was referring not only to an intellectual assent to the truth but also to the application of truth in the most basic issues of life; our goals, our motives, and our sense who we really are. Unfortunately, many of us give only lip service to the powerful truths of the Scriptures without allowing them to affect the basis of who we really are in a radical way. (John 8:31-32 NIV) To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. {32} Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

Solid roots will bring about glorious fruit. In the morning sessions, I will be delivering the following messages that will address these important issues:

Glorious Fruit - (Evening Message Focus - Claude Hubbard)

We are often told that we should believe in Christ and that He should determine how we live. But why should we? What happens when we do? In the evening messages, will we see the result of sinking our roots deep into the fertile soil of the Gospel by coming to understand how Christ changes how we deal with the challenges and blessings of our life. By looking at the ways that our society and the Bible approach anxiety, fear, suffering and money, we will come to see that our society’s ways of dealing with these issues ultimately must fail of their own accord because they cannot handle the weight that we ourselves put upon them. When we examine the way that Jesus Christ affects these same issues, we will find that the Gospel offers us a different way, a ‘third way’ of resolving our struggles with these things.

Youth

What should we root our Christian lives in? Growing up, it was implied that we root it in our performance. We were taught to try really hard to be holy. And so, I did just that. I tried to be pure, loving, forgiving. But I failed. And I felt miserable. It wasn't until I realized that our spirituality is completely rooted in the Gospel that I was set free. I came to see that it was not about me, but it was about the all-sufficient grace and power of Christ and His finished work on the cross. He is our all in all. If we can have our hearts, minds, and souls rooted in Jesus, then, awwww yeahhh, glorious fruit will abound! I look forward to the opportunity to share about Jesus with all of you. - Dave
